A Little Something About Us

The idea of The Hornet's Nest Campus Bookstore was conceived by a group of  innovative students in Mrs. Deborah Stietenroth's Compensatory Math class at Loyd Star Attendance Center, who applied for, and received seed money from the MS Council on Developmental Disabilities and the MS Council on Economic Education.  Since there is no bookstore on campus where students can purchase necessary supplies, they decided it would be a useful and viable business.

These students participate in weekly sessions at The First Street Business Center in Brookhaven, where they learn a variety of skills necessary to finding and keeping a job. Mrs. Suzanne Smith, the owner of The First Street Business Center, seeks out community leaders and invites them to come and speak to the students about different job opportunities and careers in the Brookhaven area.

They are also learning to be productive members of the community by volunteering at various events, and have formed a club, "The Hornet's Nest Entrepreneur Club". The president of the club, Kathryn, is trying to organize an anti-bullying campaign for the elementary school.
